A Latin party isn’t a black-tie gala, and it isn’t an after-party in worn-out trainers either: it’s a night of non-stop dancing, serious heat and a crowd that made an effort. Here’s how to strike the right balance between style and comfort.

Start with your feet

Your shoes will make or break your night. For salsa and bachata, go for a smooth sole that glides on the floor: suede, leather or proper dance soles. Grippy rubber soles block your spins and punish your knees.

For a reggaeton and dembow night, clean sneakers are perfect. You’ll be jumping, not spinning.

If heels are non-negotiable, pick a wide, stable heel of 5 to 7 cm. Nobody dances for six hours on stilettos.

An outfit that breathes

A packed dance floor hits 28 °C fast. Choose light fabrics (cotton, linen, viscose) and skip the layers.

  • For her: a flowing dress, a top with a skirt that twirls, a bodysuit with wide-leg trousers.
  • For him: an open short-sleeved shirt, a fitted T-shirt, light trousers rather than heavy denim.
  • For everyone: bright colours. A fiesta latina is not an all-black techno night.

Leave a change of clothes in the cloakroom if you plan to stay until closing.

Play the theme

What to avoid

Open sandals (someone will step on your toes), jewellery that snags on your partner and big handbags. Beyond that, there are no rules: the only real fashion crime is staying on the edge of the dance floor.
